Low Vision Aid Solutions Getting the very best from your sight each day

Low Vision Aids from Cromer EyeCare Norfolk Opticians

“I bought these new specs and I still can’t see well enough”

A strange quote to be found on an opticians’ website? But it is true that not all ocular diseases can be cured with spectacles and sometimes we have to go beyond spectacle provision. Let me explain that there is help available when you are utterly depressed because of failing sight. You feel you won’t be able to be independent any more and your self-esteem is rock bottom. My mantra is “To send patients out Happier than when they came in”

My Name is Annette and I have been a Dispensing Optician for over 40 years, I have worked for large and small companies and held several management positions. I went on to become an examiner for my professional body, the Association of Dispensing Opticians (ABDO). Several years ago a friend persuaded me to study the Low Vision Honours course, run by ABDO.

Low Vision Work

Low vision work, dealing with magnification, telescopes, lighting etc is really a natural progression of a dispensing opticians’ usual job of dealing with technicalities of spectacle lenses and frames. As well as good technical knowledge, the essential quality of a Low Vision Practitioner is an excellent “beside manner”, putting patients at their ease and understanding what a difficult time they may be experiencing. I cannot give sight to the blind, but the art of Low Vision practice is to make the most of the vision a patient has, and sometimes the results are quite surprising.

At Hunstanton Eyecare I offer a Low Vision Assessment (£60), be prepared to spend at least an hour with me, and then we can provide low vision aids, magnifiers etc, to assist you in the tasks you find most difficult. The starting point is from the best spectacle prescription, so don’t throw them away because you feel they don’t work. It will be the combination of spectacles AND a magnifier that may give the best result.

Tell us what your visual difficulties are and we will endeavour to find a solution.

Your New OrCam Partners

The latest technology available

OrCam is one of the latest technological innovations to assist the severely sight impaired. OrCam MyEye 2.00 snaps magnetically to the side of your spectacle frame and weighs less than an ounce.

The device is a clever camera which can read text, recognise faces and products, and even tells you the time, all in one tiny gadget.

We offer demonstrations in at our Hunstanton practice by appointment.
